Math Club Info Session on Research Programs for Undergraduates: UCARE and REUs

Does the idea of applying your math skills outside of the classroom interest you? Did you know that you can earn a stipend to engage in research while you study right here at UNL? Have you considered traveling to other locations around the country to meet like-minded students and do research together? If so, you should highly consider applying for a UCARE or REU project!

Undergraduate research at UNL is sponsored by the UCARE program, which allows you to get involved with research during the academic year or the summer under the mentorship of a UNL faculty member. This program offers a stipend of $2,400.

REUs are summer research programs based at various institutions around the US which attract groups of students to work on mathematics problems together. They typically cover all your travel, meals and lodging expenses and give you opportunities to meet scientists outside of UNL and present your work at conferences.

The Math Club is organizing an information session on Thursday, January 16 from 4-5 pm in 351 Avery Hall to help interested students get familiar with the available opportunities in undergraduate research. A panel of students will share their experiences, explaining how to bring your math major to a new level with research and allowing you to get a better understanding of the UCARE and REU application process.
