Fall 2021 Academic Advising
For the Fall 2021 semester, you will have three main ways to engage with academic advising: scheduled appointments, virtual only drop-in meetings, and email.
Scheduled Appointments
Doug Pellatz will have scheduled appointments available from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon and 1 pm to 4:30 pm in 45-minute blocks every weekday unless he is taking drop-in meetings. Scheduled appointments are great for discussions about majors, major options, minors, course planning, graduation plans, and anytime you have multiple questions that you want to cover. Doug can also help you navigate the Degree Audit, the Degree Planner, and the Enrollment Scheduler tools. Scheduled appointments can be completed in-person in 209 Avery Hall (within the Math Department office in 203 Avery Hall), via Zoom at https://unl.zoom.us/my/dougpellatz, or over the phone at 402-472-4319.
You can schedule a meeting with Doug by using the MyPlan system via this link, by calling the College of Arts and Sciences Academic and Career Advising Center at 402-472-4190, by calling Doug at 402-472-4319, or by emailing Doug at dpellatz@unl.edu.
Professor Petronela Radu, the undergraduate chair for the Math Department and your faculty partner, is also available for appointments as scheduled by email at pradu@unl.edu. Professor Radu is a great resource for information about Advanced Math courses, about how Advanced Math courses apply to certain career areas, research within Mathematics, and going to graduate school in Mathematics or a related area.
Virtual Only Drop-In Meetings
Doug will have virtual only drop-in meeting sessions via Zoom every Tuesday from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon and every Friday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. These virtual only drop-in meeting sessions will be facilitated by the College of Arts and Sciences Academic and Career Advising Center at https://unl.zoom.us/my/casadvising.
Virtual only drop-in meetings are great for quick questions and meetings that you expect will only take 10 to 15 minutes. Questions about courses for a specific requirement or about a course prerequisite, pass/no pass grading or withdrawing for a course, or help with using MyRed and the Enrollment Scheduler, the Degree Audit, or the Degree Planner are great examples of things for a drop-in meeting.
Emails
Emails are best for questions that do not require any discussion. If you send an email that appears to require a discussion, Doug will likely send you a short response and then suggest a virtual only drop-in meeting or a scheduled appointment.
