Cooper Conversation: Maternal & Reproductive Healthcare for BIPOC Women

At this Cooper Conversation, we will explore topics including prenatal care, access/barriers to care and birth control, and post-natal care for the child and the mother, both physical and emotional. This conversation will feature medical professionals, scholars, and advocates working to improve maternal healthcare outcomes for women of color. The topic ties to this year’s E. N. Thompson Forum on World Issues theme around racial equity and action, and coincides with Women's History Month and International Women's Day.

This conversation will feature:
• Deirdre Cooper Owens, PhD, Charles and Linda Wilson Professor in the History of Medicine and Director, Humanities in Medicine, UNL
• Megan Hunt, State Senator, Nebraska Legislature, 8th District (availability pending legislative obligations)
• Jamin A. Johnson, Health Equity Advisor, Douglas County Health Department
• Kathy Leeper, MD, IBCLC, Breastfeeding Medicine Specialist and Medical Director, MilkWorks

The discussion leaders will share their background and expertise and then students and leaders will continue the conversation in small groups.
