Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research Internships
The Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research has summer and after graduation internships for students interested in the biomedical field and biomedical research. These programs seem particularly relevant to students with an interest in Mathematical Biology.
A Summer of Science Internship
The highly competitive Summer Internship Program at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) provides research training opportunities for college students who have a strong desire to pursue a career in the biomedical field. Interns are carefully matched with NIBR scientist mentors to gain first-hand exposure to NIBR's innovative approaches to research, science and technology.
Program Highlights
Interns conduct an independent research project under the guidance of a NIBR scientist. This 10-week paid internship from runs from June to August at our research headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Interns will participate in scientific, personal, and professional development events such as poster sessions, seminars and workshops. Social events will take place at various times during the internship.
NIBR is committed to providing inclusive research experiences and encourages applications from talented individuals, including students from under-resourced communities who are interested in biomedical careers. Prior research experience is not required and we welcome applicants for whom this would be their first internship.
Eligibility
- Applicants must have completed at least three semesters or four quarters at an accredited U.S. college or university before the start of the internship
- Applicants must attend a school in a U.S. state or territory and be eligible to work in the United States
- Applicants must have a strong desire to pursue a career in a biomedical field
- Applicants should have a GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, however, this comprises only one element of the application, which is reviewed in its totality
The application deadline is December 31, 2022.
Gateways to Graduate School
Our Postbaccalaureate Research InternShip & Mentoring (PRISM) program is an intensive, accelerated 2-year training opportunity designed for highly talented students from historically underserved communities within the sciences*. Interns who have strong credentials from their undergraduate work yet have a demonstrated gap in their training, gain additional research experience at NIBR to strengthen their competitiveness for top biomedical PhD and MD/PhD programs.
Program Highlights
PRISM interns drive independent, non-proprietary research projects which address key fundamental questions under the guidance of a dedicated principal investigator at Novartis. Professional and personal programming also includes:
- Scientific communication skills building (e.g. poster sessions and oral presentations)
- Participation in internal and external scientific conferences
- Access to relevant courses and seminars at local universities
- A dedicated Scientific Mentor Advisory Committee (SMAC)
- GRE and graduation school interview preparation
Eligibility
- Applicants must have obtained a B.S. degree in a biomedically relevant field from an accredited U.S. college or university before the start of the internship
- Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and be able to commit to a 2 year program
- Applicants must have a strong desire to pursue a graduate degree program in a biomedical field
The application deadline is January 31, 2022.
