Hello Math Majors,
Welcome to the month of October! October is always an interesting month in terms of both classes and events, so be sure to pay attention to both your class and event calendars. Also, beware of the falling temperatures from now until the end of the semester.
Priority Registration
October is a planning month. Families are making their Thanksgiving and Christmas plans, and you should be making plans for the Spring 2019 semester. Priority Registration for the Spring 2019 semester will begin on Monday, October 22, so Spring 2019 classes should be viewable on MyRed by Monday, October 8. Now is an excellent to time to setup a meeting with me, Dr. Radu, or your assigned advisor in MyRed to plan out your Spring 2019 course schedule. If you schedule an appointment, we will also have time to discuss your goals and interests, future course plans, and after graduation plans. You can find information about scheduling an appointment below. Also, be sure to check your MyRed account to make sure you don't have any registration holds. If you have a hold, make sure you understand what you are supposed to do to get the hold removed long before your priority registration date.
Course Assessment
The beginning of October is also a good time to assess where you are in your courses. Dig out the course schedule attached to the syllabus to see when your next major assignment, project, or paper is due. Double check when the next exam or exams are. Are you as far along in the course as planned? Or is the lecture a little behind schedule? If you haven't done so already, creating a calendar of major course dates for the rest of the semester can be a big help. I recommend printing a month long calendar and filling it out by hand as taking the time to do this will mean that you are less likely to forget something important.
Probation Level 1B and Level 2 Students: The probation hold on your registration for Spring 2019 won't lift itself. You need to take action if you haven't already done so. For more information, please visit https://success.unl.edu/academic-support/academic-recovery.
As always, I am here to help you succeed at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln academically, professionally, and personally, so please use me as a resource to make that happen.
Thanks,
Doug
