UMONHONIYE The Omaha Speaking
Only a handful of Native American fluent speakers remain of the Omaha Tribe. Fluent speaking elders reflect on growing up speaking their native language, the efforts that were taken by outsiders to phase it out and why it is so important to preserve it. Hopefulness is expressed by the elders while a dedicated group of educators attempts to keep their language alive. The Norman A Geske Cinema Showcase presents filmmaker Brigitte Timmerman, president of the Nebraska Film Association who advocates for filmmaking in the state of Nebraska, and fluent speaking elders, Octa Keen and Glenna Slater, who will appear for Q+As with the audience following free screenings of UMONHON IYE The Omaha Speaking on both Friday and Saturday.

Afternoon of Choirs
When the Varsity Chorus gathers on stage, it’s much more than a concert. It’s an event! One that leaves the audience spellbound and wanting more. The choir has been transformed into one of the finest of its kind in the country. While focusing primarily on music of the standard male chorus repertoire, they also bring new literature into this musical idiom with interesting new commissions and exciting multi-cultural works. What brings them all together is the enjoyment of making music and the special camaraderie, which is such an important part of ensembles. University Chorale is a women’s vocal ensemble that performs a varied repertoire of soprano/alto literature. Through the study and performance of diverse musical expressions that represent a variety of historical and cultural perspectives, students participating in University Chorale develop the knowledge, skills, interests, values, and attitudes associated with individual and ensemble musicianship and artistry.

This latest one man show features some brand new handyman projects, advice to married guys and teenage boys, tips on getting old, an apology to the world on behalf of all baby boomers, special contributions from Harold and a couple of other cast members, talking animals and a final wish from Red to all of his loyal fans.
