The SkyWatch Weather Center with Flag Family Media in Fargo, ND is looking for a summer/fall intern. An ideal candidate would be a junior or senior METR-CLIM student with some synoptic meteorology experience. They are looking to fill the position by the end of this month.

Flag Family Media is offering a Summer and academic school year internship for students pursuing a major or minor in Atmospheric sciences. We are looking for preferably a senior level student but will also consider juniors in atmospheric sciences to join the SkyWatch Weather Center with Flag Family Media for operational experience in forecasting and forecast delivery. This position would Likely start early/mid May (After Finals). Applicants would be expected to create an accurate 7-day forecast for Fargo and Tioga ND, and update/manage an online 7-Day forecast. Additionally, creating and loading multiple 30 second recorded forecast for Fargo, ND to air on two radio stations. Recordings should/will focus on the day at hand, tonight, and tomorrow plus the following day if time permitted. Recordings will focus on local weather but also touch on regional (50-ish mile radius) weather when impactful such as snow storms or severe weather. Weather recording are timed and scheduled so they must be uploaded by a specific time throughout the day. On average these duties should only consume 1-2 hours a day and can be performed remotely from home.

This internship opportunity will be non-paid, for school credit towards your major. Two credits for the summer/fall semesters, and 1 credit for the spring semester totaling 3 credits for the full internship.

We will provide training in forecasting and radio forecast delivery to improve your skills as an operational forecaster. Additional opportunities for job shadowing will be provided for forecast delivery and severe weather coverage.

Weekly meetups (in person or virtual) will be conducted to see how your skills are improving, critiques, weather discussions (the forecast at hand), and Q/A.
