We are excited to present the second "What's New with MTEP?" quarterly feature, designed to keep you informed and engaged with the latest happenings across the MTEP 2.0 leadership hubs. Each quarter, we'll provide brief updates from our Outreach, Research, Support, and Admin hubs, along with exciting cross-hub initiatives. Read on to learn what’s new with MTEP.

Cross-hub update

  • Registration is now open for the 2025 MTEP Conference, which will be held as a “conference within a conference” during the 2025 AMTE Conference, February 6-8, 2025 in Reno, Nevada. Register and apply for travel support by Nov. 1! Keep up with the latest information at mtep.info/2025conference.

Support
  • The Change Agent Subgroup is hosting the fall Change Agent Check-in Meeting at 3:00 p.m. central TODAY, Sept. 16. All MTEP 2.0 Change Agents—team leaders, program leaders, and coaches—are encouraged to attend!
  • The Support Hub is pleased to announce the Fall 2024 NIC-Cast schedule, including a discussion-based NIC-Cast about common areas of work on Monday, Nov. 18. See "Upcoming Events" for the full schedule.
  • The Cross-Team Improvement subgroup hosted the Professional Help, Understanding, and Networking (PHUN) Workshop on Sept. 11. In this session, participants collaboratively analyzed the root causes underlying chosen problem areas, explored possible collaborations with other teams doing related work, and participated in discussion groups.
  • The Change Coach subgroup Support Hub hosted the fall Change Coach check-in meeting on Aug. 21. The discussion-based meeting included time to raise issues related to coaching and seek support, advice, and resources; share successful coaching strategies; and create a set of monthly conversation starters for engaging with teams.

Outreach
  • The next Minority-Serving Institutions and Partners Informational Meeting will take place on Friday, October 4 at 1:00 p.m. CDT. The Outreach hub hopes MTEP team and program leaders from MSIs and predominantly white institutions will invite their neighboring institutions who have secondary mathematics teacher education programs to come to the meeting to discuss possible ways to leverage each other’s strengths to improve secondary mathematics education in your local areas, states, and the nation. Register to attend.
  • The Outreach Hub hosted the annual MTEP 2.0 Advisory Board meeting on August 12. During the meeting, advisory board members advised Hub leaders on questions they had and provided feedback on plans for the next academic year. The MTEP leadership team really appreciated the recommendations that the board members shared.

Research
  • The Research Hub is currently analyzing data collected during interviews with team NIC members during Fall 2023-Spring 2024, with a case summary analysis planned to begin once the interviews are coded and summarized.
  • 2024 Program Completer Survey data collection is now underway. This survey captures the number of new math teachers who graduated from each MTEP program during 2023-2024. (Program leaders: don’t forget to complete the survey using the Qualtrics link you received via email by Oct. 15!)
  • The hub collected and summarized 2024 Team Report Surveys from 14 MTEP teams. Data from the team reports helps MTEP 2.0 to identify changes at the local NIC level based on the changes at partner institutions reflected in driver diagrams. (Team leaders: if you still haven’t turned in your 2024 Team Report, it’s not too late! Contact mleadabrand2@unl.edu if you have questions.)
  • Using data from interview summaries, team reports, new team applications, program progress surveys, program completer surveys, leadership surveys, and NIC meeting observations, the Research Hub is working to tell the overarching story of MTEP 2.0 and the story of each NIC.
  • Reminder: because the Research Hub is currently focusing on thorough data analysis, we will not be conducting interviews of teams or leaders during the 2024-2025 academic year.
