October NIC-Cast: Minority-Serving Institutions and Partners Informational Meeting

MTEP 2.0 is currently working to grow partnerships with Minority-serving Institutions (MSIs), which include Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-serving Institutions, Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-serving Institutions, and Tribal Colleges and Universities. By 2025, MTEP’s goal is to expand the network to 65 programs, including 11 new MSIs, constituting a broader networked improvement community with diverse voices who promote secondary mathematics teacher preparation programs that better align with AMTE’s Standards for Preparing Teachers of Mathematics. In an effort to achieve this goal, the MTEP Outreach Hub conducts informational meetings to recruit MSI teams, their neighboring predominantly white institutions, school partners, and others. On October 4, the hub is holding its first MSIs and Partners Informational Meeting for the 2024-2025 academic year. MTEP team and program leaders from MSIs and predominantly white institutions are encouraged to invite their neighboring institutions who have secondary mathematics teacher education programs to come to the meeting to discuss possible ways to leverage each other’s strengths to improve secondary mathematics education in your local areas, states, and the nation.

In this NIC-Cast, participants will engage with each other around common areas their NICs are working in. In addition to gaining insights from work going on across MTEP 2.0, participants will have an opportunity to form ongoing collaborations that can support their work.
