Equity and Social Justice Discussion Group Session: Effective Ways to Implement Teacher Induction to Support Novice Teachers' Implementation of Equitable Practices

This presentation will provide participants with the opportunity to discuss effective ways to implement a teacher induction program to support novice math teachers while focusing on the implementation of equitable practices in the classroom. After a short presentation of the Florida International University teacher induction model to support Noyce graduates, participants will engage in guided breakout room discussions about their views on induction models, the challenges of implementation, and the need to bridge the gap between preservice and inservice training, all while keeping a focus on the use of equitable practices in the classroom to create a successful learning environment.

In addition to gaining insights from work going on across MTEP 2.0, participants will have an opportunity to form ongoing collaborations that can support their work and participate in discussions on one or more of the following topics:
- Fostering Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Secondary Mathematics Teacher Preparation
- Improving the Functioning of Your NIC, including developing a common vision, communication strategies, maximizing member engagement with limited time, creating a community
- Partnership Building to Better Engage (or Add) Partners to Your NIC, including K-12 school districts
- Recruiting and Retaining Undergraduate Teacher Preparation Candidates
- Supporting Early-career Mathematics Teachers

The MTEP 2.0 Network Expansion Outreach subhub invites leaders of organizations with goals similar to MTEP 2.0, whose work exemplifies a commitment and dedication to empowering today’s teachers, to attend a Network Expansion informational meeting via Zoom on Dec. 6. Attendees will discuss policies and other issues related to mathematics teacher education. Facilitators will share an overview of modules designed for secondary math methods courses aimed at developing our preservice teachers' critical consciousness and practices to counter anti-Blackness in the math classroom.
