We are excited to present the third installment of "What's New with MTEP?" designed to keep you informed and engaged with the latest happenings across the MTEP 2.0 leadership hubs. Periodically, we'll provide brief updates from our Outreach, Research, Support, and Admin hubs, along with exciting cross-hub initiatives. Read on to learn what’s new with MTEP.
Outreach
- The Outreach Hub has been working on building partnerships among different types of colleges and universities and their school partners and local organizations. The hub has also been expanding the MTEP 2.0 network to national organizations and other projects focused on transforming secondary mathematics teacher education and mathematics education in general.
- The next Partnership Building and Networking Informational Meeting will take place at 1:00 p.m. CST on Friday, March 7. The Outreach hub hopes MTEP team and program leaders will invite their neighboring institutions who have secondary mathematics teacher education programs to come to the meeting to discuss possible ways to leverage each other’s strengths to improve secondary mathematics education in your local areas, states, and the nation. Register to attend.
- The Outreach Hub is also convening a meeting on 3:00 to 4:00 pm CDT on March 17 via Zoom to bring together participants who have been attending the Network Expansion meetings to organize subgroups to work on issues of concern across the mathematics education organizations, school systems, funded projects, and others.
- The next Network Expansion Meeting will be held on May 9.
- In January the Social Media Subhub launched MTEP 2.0 profiles on several platforms. Visit linktr.ee/mtep2.0 to connect with us on Bluesky, Facebook, and Linkedin!
Research
- The Research Hub is continuing the work of compiling the story of each NIC grounded in the data collected from teams. Team leaders should expect to receive a Partnership Profile later this spring or early summer, and teams will have an opportunity to add to their Partnership Profiles as they see appropriate.
- In response to requests from MTEP members, the Research Hub is working to compile a PDSA cycle database in a form we can share openly across MTEP. In addition, we plan to compile and publish a list of the change ideas each team is working on, so that teams engaging with similar change initiatives can network with each other.
- We are planning to move the collection of program completer numbers into the annual Program Progress Survey. The Program Progress Survey will open up in March and be due in May. Emails will be sent to each program leader with the survey request.
- The annual Team Report Survey will be sent out in April with a due date in June. Team leaders should make plans to verify that individual program leaders have submitted their Program Progress Surveys and completer data at the time of Team Report submission.
Support
- The Change Agent Subhub has been working on increasing interactions among the change agent network between scheduled meetings through asynchronous interactions. It also helped to organized a networking breakfast at the 2025 MTEP Conference-within-a-conference. Stay tuned for more opportunities to network in the coming month, with the next change agent meeting to be held in April.
- The Change Coach Subhub has been working to build the efficacy of the MTEP change coaches assigned to support each team. A recent survey found that team leaders find the change coaches to be valuable assets. The change coaches will continue to reach out to provide help as needed, and they are always here if and when you need some help!
- The Cross-team Improvement Subhub organized discussion groups during the Thursday evening convening of the 2025 MTEP Conference-within-a-conference. They will continue to encourage and support cross-team collaborations in the future, with follow-up discussion groups scheduled for the April NIC-Cast.
- One discussion group has already blossomed into a working group focused on improving support for teacher candidates as they complete their programs and transition into their careers. We look forward to hearing more from this group as their work expands, and we will support the development of additional working groups as they emerge.
- The Support Hub is collaborating with the Research Hub to better understand whether the new "subhub" structure is effective in organizing the work of supporting our MTEP 2.0 teams. We are also working with the Research Hub to provide teams with sample PDSA cycles.
