"It seems simple—but people stay more engaged in a space where they are enjoying each other, feel celebrated and appreciated. Small, personal celebrations help fuel groups through the hard work, reminding them that they are humans together, regardless of the external pressures they face."
–adrienne maree brown, Holding Change: The Way of Emergent Strategy Facilitation and Mediation
This month, we are uplifting happy news from MTEP networked improvement communities and programs. Join us in celebrating the North Carolina and TEMME NICs' small successes!
Meeting in person to reenergize team efforts
In October, the North Carolina team held an in-person two-day meeting to reinvigorate the work of their team. The team brought together representatives and change agents from institutions across the state, reaffirmed commitments from programs to the MTEP NC team, and made progress on an updated driver diagram and other shared goals. This meeting was supported by an MTEP NIC Support Mini-Grant—learn more about how to apply for a mini-grant to support your team's efforts.
Holding an author-led faculty retreat
Members of the Transformative Eastern Michigan Mathematics Educators (TEMME) NIC worked with their department chair to plan a faculty retreat led by Aris Winger, co-author the Advocating for Students of Color in Mathematics book series, which its departmental book club had read over the last few years.
In the next MTEP Transformers newsletter, we will share a call for more small successes to highlight in January 2026. You are also welcome to share your team's successes at any time to be included in the next upcoming "Celebrating Our Small Successes" feature.
