The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Paul Haar, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Big Band, under the direction of Andrew Janak will kick off the 50th year of jazz ensembles at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a concert on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.
This years’ concerts will have a shared theme titled: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow and will feature works from the half century of jazz at Nebraska along with work by alumni and current students. This concert will feature works by Bob Mintzer, Buddy Rich, Kenny Wheeler, Thelonious Monk, John Fedchock, Runkin Lee and others.
About the Jazz Orchestra
Directed Dr. Paul Haar, the Jazz Orchestra is the university’s showcase jazz organization and one of the Glenn Korff School of Music’s most visible performing groups. This versatile ensemble performs all styles of music from Duke Ellington to the contemporary artists of today.
About the Big Band
Directed by Andrew Janak, the Big Band is a vital component of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln jazz curriculum. It is specifically designed to motivate and inform music educators and aspiring teachers through innovative programming and pedagogical methods.
