The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s First-Year Experience and Transition Programs has been renamed the Center for Academic Success and Transition.

The updated name is a better reflection of the unit’s focus on supporting all levels of undergraduate students’ academic success.

“This name change has been a long time coming, and we’re really excited about it,” said Lori Romano, director of the center. “We kept hearing how reluctant students were to visit our office because they weren’t necessarily first-year students. Our new name makes it clear that we’re here to support all students at Nebraska. Students are the stars of their stories. Our job is to be part of their strong supporting cast.”

Located in Love Library South 127, the Center for Academic Success and Transition is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students can schedule appointments online through MyPLAN, by calling 402-472-1880, or by visiting the office’s front desk. The center’s academic success coaches work with students on everything from time management and test preparation to note-taking and homesickness.

In addition to providing individual academic success coaching sessions and weekly academic success workshops, students can take advantage of free daily tutoring, 5 to 9 p.m., Monday to Thursday, in the Adele Coryell Hall Learning Commons (next to Dunkin’ Donuts). Faculty, staff, and student leaders can also request presentations as part of a course, scheduled meetings, or special events by submitting a presentation request form.
