Books our team has been enjoying lately

The advancement of AI has brought some interesting discussions about the future of academia and society more broadly. One of our team members, Jake Marszalek, has shared two book recommendations that explore both how society can coexist with AI and the risks of leaving computer-driven systems unchecked.

The first recommendation is Co-Intelligence: Living and Working with AI. Here's what Jake has to say about his experience at a book club: "Our Provost had a book club this summer [2025], and we read Co-Intelligence: Living and Working with AI. The book jacket states the book is “the definitive playbook for working, learning, and living in the new age of AI.” I’m not sure about that, but it is a good overview of AI and the issues for society."

Jake also recommends Weapons of Math Destruction.: I really like Weapons of Math Destruction. I read it in 2016 but it is more relevant today than ever. Wikipedia states, the book “explores how some big data algorithms are increasingly used in ways that reinforce preexisting inequality.”

We would love to hear your book recommendations and/or what is on your reading list. Please email Camilla at ccarvalhomorone2@unl.edu to have your picks featured in a future Book Corner. Happy reading!
