The application for International Welcome team is now open until April 1. Students can find the application on Handshake or the New Student Enrollment website at https://go.unl.edu/wt2022.

Welcome Team members provide the support and knowledge necessary to make new undergraduate students feel at home as a Husker from the moment they arrive in Nebraska. They are the friendly face and resource at the Lincoln airport when new international undergraduates arrive

The team also helps students check in and get connected within the University Housing residence halls and leads activities during International Orientation. They are the leader during International Welcome Week by facilitating small-group activities and troubleshooting students' issues.

Eligibility

  • Current domestic and international fully admitted undergraduates are eligible(IEP, Exchange, and graduate students are not eligible).
  • Applicants with previous experience in mentoring, leadership, or cultural groups and a desire to help new international students adapt would make strong candidates, but such experience is not required.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 and be in good academic standing.
Time commitment
  • Work approximately 50-60 hours before classes begin in the Fall semester (includes training)
  • Work approximately 30-40 hours before Spring classes begin
Welcome Team members can have other on-campus jobs. However, they cannot work at their other position during the time frame of Welcome Team responsibilities before each semester begins . Other than occasional Welcome Team meetings, there are no required work hours for the Welcome Team during the semester.

Spring 2022
  • Sunday, April 24th (afternoon): Required training
Fall 2022:
  • Wednesday, Aug. 10 to Saturday, Aug. 13: Required fall training
  • Sunday, Aug. 15 to Tuesday, Aug. 16: Airport welcome, residence hall welcome, welcome events
  • Wednesday, Aug. 17 to Sunday, Aug. 21: International Orientation and Welcome programs
Spring 2023
  • Jan. 9 to 11 (tentative, depends on finalized Spring academic calendar): Spring training, airport welcome and welcome events
  • Jan. 12 to 13 (tentative, depends on finalized Spring academic calendar): International Orientation and welcome events
Compensation: $9/hour during training, orientation, welcome activities
