Come celebrate the Indian festival of spring and colors at UNL with FREE COLORS for all participants with Ncard! Learn about the traditions of the festival as you relish FREE FOOD from India!! The highlight of the event will be 3 SYNCHRONIZED COLOR THROWS!
This event is open to all UNL students with Ncard.
We envision HOLI, the Indian spring festival of colors will allow us the opportunity of celebrating diversity through the lens of the Indian culture. Coinciding with the explosion of colorful blooms in nature, HOLI has been celebrated for millenniums in the Indian subcontinent and now all over the world. This festival brings the message of celebrating the diversity in nature and embracing the differences as complementary parts of life itself! This festival is also an opportunity for individuals and communities to drop their differences and playfully paint each other in the multitude of colors as seen around in nature during this time of the year.
Here at UNL, we envision HOLI playing a similar role of bringing together students belonging to different cultures, religions, and affiliations in a celebrative environment. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the history and tradition of HOLI. Participants will throw colored powder on each other while dancing to Indian music. Participants will also be treated to delicious Indian food.
Participants are encouraged to wear sunglasses and clothes that they would not mind getting stained. Our colors are made from food grade, biodegradable products with all FDA approved dyes, our color powder is safe and easy to clean up!
If reasonable accommodations such as interpreters, large print, special seating, etc. are needed to accommodate a disability, please contact Pankaj Desai at 402.472.4750 or pankajdesai@unl.edu, to discuss accommodations at least two weeks prior to the Holi event to ensure we can make appropriate arrangements.
