Meet Claire Nalty, an environmental science major in the School of Natural Resouces from Papillion, Nebraska.

Why did you decide to come to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

Being from Nebraska, the University of Nebraska- Lincoln was always at the front of my mind when considering universities. In high school, I took a tour of the school, and my tour included an East Campus visit. This visit alone convinced me to come to this school! I loved the energy of East Campus, and every human I met was so welcoming and kind. As I walked through campus during this tour, it felt right.

What is your favorite thing about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I love how it is a big university, but it still feels like a small school, especially in CASNR.

What about diversity and inclusion? Is it necessary to you when you think about your CASNR experience?

I think diversity and inclusion is absolutely necessary. I feel that the science community, especially surrounding agriculture and natural resources, is historically a closed-minded community. Making science accessible for all people is necessary, and something that I feel the community has been working towards in the past few decades. I think that CASNR is an agent in this, and I have felt nothing but safe and welcome through my journey in this school. This allowed me to feel comfortable in my pursuit of an education.
