Hardin Hall will be participating in the Statewide Tornado drill on Wednesday, March 27, 10:15 am during Severe Weather Awareness week, March 25-29. If you are teaching or scheduling meetings, please plan accordingly. The Tornado Watch will start around 10 AM and the Tornado Warning will follow around 10:15 AM. City sirens will sound, UNL Alert will be sent (different cell phone carriers have different delivery times), the building alarm will sound, and the building announcement system will instruct people to take shelter. To sign up for UNL Alert, go to https://unlalert.unl.edu, login, and provide the cell number for text messages. NOTE: The system has been loaded with everyone's primary email address, so you do not need to add it, but you can remove it. For more info about UNL Alert, go to https://safety.unl.edu/unlalert
For people in Hardin Hall:
If you are in the basement when the siren/alarm sounds (or you receive UNL Alerts), stay in the basement.
When you hear the siren/alarm or receive UNL Alerts, collect personal belongings (if immediately accessible), take the nearest stairs, and go to the basement and take shelter in hallways, restrooms, offices. People who are not able to take the stairs due to mobility issues are approved to use the elevator to go to the basement and take shelter. NOTE: Tower occupants may take shelter in any space that does not have windows (e.g., inner office or restroom).
If you are teaching, stay calm! Direct your students to collect their personal belongings (if immediately accessible), take the nearest stairs, and go to the basement and take shelter in hallways, restrooms, offices. People who have mobility issues are approved to use the elevator to go to the basement and take shelter.
The SNR Safety & Facilities Committee (and volunteers) will check all rooms in the building to see how well we complied. Our goal is 100%.
