The Fall 2021 Strive to Thrive class selected City Impact as a recipient of a $5,000 grant. Nancy Bernhardson, former City Impact Development Director, shared that the grant was used toward the organization's youth reading program.
This program focuses on developing literacy to get kids at or above a K-5 reading level. Bernhardson herself served a tutor in the program and shared about her experience when she hosted members of Strive to Thrive Lincoln on their site visit.
Through the reading program, kids are able to receive 1-on-1 tutoring, as well as complete literacy activities and participate in book clubs. At the end of the program, kids are able to keep a book from the library. Since the grant was awarded over a year ago, City Impact has renamed the project the CI Literacy Program.
