The ITS Academic Technologies team looks forward to partnering with instructors on teaching and learning opportunities this academic year. Here are some of most used services available at the University of Nebraska.

Canvas is the Learning Management System used on all four campuses — UNL, UNK, UNO, and UNMC. This provides a consistent LMS experience for students and instructors. A cloud-based service, Canvas is built as a nimble framework for robust tools that focus on improving teaching and learning via a modern interface. Use your MyUNL.edu credentials to log in to the system. The UNL Canvas team is available at canvas@unl.edu for questions or support.

The Digital Learning Center Exam Commons provides a web-based assessment service in a large-scale environment. It is located in the southeast corner of the Adele Coryell Hall Learning Commons (Love Library North). Testing requests for an upcoming term may be submitted 45 days prior to the first day of that term. If you have not yet submitted requests for the fall semester, make a reservation as soon as possible.

Turnitin provides instructors with a web-based detection service to identify suspected acts of plagiarism. It is available within Canvas, and checks submitted documents against its database and websites to identify unoriginal content. It can also be used in formative assessment to help students learn how to avoid plagiarism and improve their writing.

The STAR initiative provides affordable digital textbooks and open education resources to students. STAR is made possible by resources from the offices of the Executive Vice Chancellor, University Libraries, Information Technology Services, UNL Campus Bookstore, and Innovative Instructional Design.

Zoom is the web conferencing tool used by the university. Zoom Pro licenses are available to faculty and staff. Use your MyUNL.edu credentials to log in to the service and claim an account by visiting the university Zoom website. The service also integrates with Canvas.

UNL Academic Video is provided by the video streaming and lecture capture system VidGrid and is available to all instructors and students for academic courses for credit through Canvas. Professional closed captioning is available to all instructors with academic videos, however priority is given to accommodation requests from the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities.

Box is a storage and collaboration service that gives faculty, staff, and students the ability to access, store, and share all types of files securely — anywhere, anytime, on virtually any device. The Academic Technologies team recommends storing Canvas course material in Box.

Eduroam is the wireless network that provides access to the internet and university resources on campus, as well as many common outdoor areas. To use the network:

  1. Select eduroam from the list of available networks.
  2. Your device will now prompt you to log in to the network. Your credentials are your full campus email address as your username and your campus password (the same as email and Canvas).
  3. If prompted, accept the eduroam certificate and authenticate your device.

On-demand (self-paced) training for academic technologies such as UNL Academic Video, Zoom, and Canvas is available. Specific training for Academic Technologies services can requested. Contact canvas@unl.edu for more information.
