The Center for Academic Success and Transition, Center for Transformative Teaching, and College of Arts and Sciences are kicking off the new year with a workshop aimed to develop resources for both faculty and students.

Lessons Learned from the Fall will be held Jan. 19 from 2 - 3:30 p.m. and hosted by Lori Romano, director of CAST, and Amy Ort and Eyde Olson, instructional designers at the CTT.

The workshop will begin with Lori Romano presenting data collected from the students that visited CAST this fall to help faculty and staff better understand the challenges that students were facing. The instructional designers will then offer practical solutions for faculty to help better mitigate those challenges.

The suggestions are designed to be simple things that will improve the learning experience for students while also helping decrease faculty workload. Participants will leave with a checklist of best practices for developing a spring Canvas course.

In addition to the workshop, the CAST office has put together a video series showing students quick tips on how to be more successful during the spring semester. The short 3-5 min videos will feature CAST staff talking about the challenges students face like time management, staying organized, and struggling with motivation, and offer tips and strategies to succeed at the university.

Advisers in CAS will be sharing the videos with students through weekly emails, and all faculty are encouraged to share the videos with their classes either as a resource or as an assignment.
