Over the years, there have been rumors of New Quizzes (originally known as Quizzes.Next), Canvas’s second-generation quizzing platform. It is true that New Quizzes has been in development for many years, and Instructure (Canvas’s parent company) has recently added many improvements to the platform. Notably, the recent addition of bulk migration allows for seamless transitioning of your Classic Quizzes to the New Quizzes platform.

Due to these recent improvements, Academic Technologies has started formally testing the product so it can begin offering New Quizzes to the university community. A small-scale pilot is underway this semester, which is why you might have noticed a selection field using the Classic/New Quiz language on the Digital Learning Commons exam request form.

On Oct. 2, Academic Technologies will enable New Quizzes in Canvas sandbox courses so faculty can test out this new offering. After the pilot is complete, New Quizzes will be enabled as an option in all courses in January 2024. There are no plans to turn off Classic Quizzes at this time.

Academic Technologies is creating training materials and a video for New Quizzes, which should be available next month. In the meantime, learn more at the New Quizzes Hub on the Instructure website.
