Since Spring 2022, a growing number of instructors have been using the Libraries Course Materials tool in Canvas to provide their students no-cost access to a wide variety of course materials, including ebooks, book chapters, journal articles, websites, and streaming video.
To ensure accessibility of online course materials, the Libraries Course Materials Program:
- Links electronic content, including HTML journal articles, streaming video, websites, and HTML book chapters, whenever possible in lieu of or in addition to including file uploads such as PDF or video files.
- Digitizes print materials at 400 dpi with optical character recognition.
- Digitizes videos for streaming on YuJa with English captions and a text file transcript available by request.
To request accessibility remediation for Libraries materials, complete the Report a Problem form. For more information and guidance about accessibility for course materials, refer to the Libraries Course Materials Guide’s Accessibility webpage.
It’s not too late to add content to a Libraries Course Materials list for a fall semester course. Instructors may create their own lists, or Libraries' staff are available to build lists for them.
To get started, instructors should submit a syllabus or reading list or contact Zach Eden at LibrariesReserves@unl.edu. Instructors can also check out the Libraries Course Materials Guide, which provides screenshots and tips for building and working with course materials lists.
