The Husker Student POWER Survey opens Monday, Sept. 15 for first-year and new transfer students.

On Sept. 15, the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor will distribute the Husker Student POWER survey to all new first-year and transfer students. Instructors of first-year classes and staff who support first-year and transfer programs are encouraged to promote survey participation to their students.

The survey is designed to identify students who may need additional resources or referrals to support their university transition and belonging. The fall 2025 iteration of the survey consists of the following statements to which they respond yes or no:

  1. I have found a friend or group of friends at UNL.
  2. I am experiencing financial distress.
  3. I want assistance in becoming involved in campus life.
  4. I am struggling in one or more classes.
  5. Someone at the university cares about me.
  6. I would like some support for my emotional well-being.
  7. I have questions but I do not know who to ask for answers.
  8. I am having technological difficulties in completing my coursework.
  9. I have the course materials I need for all my classes.
  10. I sometimes feel alone or isolated because of my racial, ethnic, or cultural identity.
  11. I am considering not returning to UNL next semester.
  12. I am attending all of my classes (in person and/or remotely) regularly.
  13. I sometimes feel alone or isolated because of my sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

Completion of the survey is a critical component of the university’s retention strategies to support student success. Campus teams contact students who raise concerns in particular areas and provide additional support and resources.

Students who complete the survey are entered into a prize drawing, including two tickets to the Oct. 4 football game against the University of Michigan, gift cards, and more.
