The University Honors Program has introduced three levels of University Honors that may be earned by students upon graduation: University Honors, High University Honors, and Highest University Honors.
This change is a result of conversations and focus groups with students, faculty, staff, and administrators over the past several months. The rationale for this change reflects trends among honors programs at peer institutions. The goal is to recognize a broader range of student accomplishments — from those who have achieved top-tier GPAs and distinguished themselves with faculty-guided research or creative activity to those who have completed the full set of Honors curricular requirements and maintained a strong GPA.
Previously, earning University Honors recognition at graduation required completing Honors curricular requirements, maintaining a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA, and completing and Honors Senior Project (thesis). Under the new structure, students may earn one of the following recognitions:
- Highest University Honors: Complete the required Honors hours, an Honors Senior Project, and maintain a 3.75-4.0 cumulative GPA
- High University Honors: Complete the required Honors hours, an Honors Senior Project, and maintain a 3.5-3.749 cumulative GPA
- University Honors: Complete the required Honors hours and maintain a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA
This change is effective immediately, as it provides additional options to current students. Students preparing for graduation under the previous structure are still eligible for University Honors.
