The University of Nebraska Inter-Tribal Exchange's annual Academic Achievement Powwow is April 21 on the Meier Commons, north of the Nebraska Union. The event, which is free and open to the public, opens with the grand entry at 1 p.m. Participant registration begins at noon.
The event celebrates the upcoming graduation of high school and college Native American students. The graduate honor ceremony is planned for 3:30 p.m.
The host drum is On the Rise from Macy, Neb. Other invited drums include the White Water Singers of Horton, Kan., and the Young Bucks of Omaha. The emcee is Davis Esau.
In the event of inclement weather, the program will be moved into the Nebraska Union Ballroom.
The UNITE Academic Achievement Powwow is sponsored by Student Support Programs/TRIO; the departments of anthropology, English, ethnic studies and history; the Native American studies program; Pepsi Diversity Fund; Office of Academic Success and Intercultural Services; and the Tau Kappa Chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
