Howe services are 2 p.m. Dec. 8

Herbert E. Howe Jr., age 70, died Nov. 4 due to a stroke, leaving behind a loving wife of 48 years, Sue. Howe was born Oct. 15, 1942, in Plainfield, N.J. He graduated from Allegheny College in 1964, and earned his doctorate in psychology in 1969 from Penn State University. He came to UNL in 1969 with a joint appointment in Psychology and English. He served in the Psychology Department until 1988, as chairman of the department between 1981 and 1988.

He was appointed as interim associate to the chancellor by Chancellor Martin Massengale in 1988, and served in the role of associate to the chancellor under four chancellors until his retirement in 2007.

He is survived by his wife; three children, son, David Howe, daughter, Robin Howe, and daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Brian Johnson; four grandchildren, Jared and Kyle Johnson, and Joshua and Wesley Howe; brother, Wesley Howe; and sister and brother-in-law, Clarice Howe-Johnson and Ken Johnson.
