UNL employees made a big impact, pledging $414,568 to the Lincoln-area Combined Campaign for Health and Human Services.

The total surpassed the university's goal of $403,000. A total of 1,821 faculty and staff gave to the campaign, an increase of 20.6 percent over the 1,510 donors in 2010.

"Thanks to all who turned in pledge cards and helped toward reaching our Combined Campaign for Health and Human Services goals," said Darin Erstad, campaign co-chair and head coach of Husker baseball. "This campaign was a success because of each of you."

Erstad and Chancellor Harvey Perlman served as co-chairs for UNL's campaign.

Organizations supported by the campaign are the United Way, supporting 45 agencies; Community Health Charities of Nebraska, supporting 19 agencies; and the Community Services Fund, supporting 33 agencies. Employees may give to any specific agency or to the three general funds, and a variety of giving options exist.

To date, UNL employees have contributed more than $6 million to the campaign.

"Each fall, as members of the university, we roll up our collective sleeves and pitch in to help the greater community through the Combined Campaign," Erstad said. "This university does a great deal for our community and that is something that we can all take pride in."
