The Modjeski and Masters (M&M) “Masters of the Trade” Scholarship is dedicated to honoring the legacy of our founder, Mr. Ralph Modjeski, renowned as one of “America’s greatest bridge builders.” With a career defined by innovation and technical excellence, Mr. Modjeski engineered over 30 major bridges across the contiguous United States, Canada, and Alaska. Among his notable achievements, he engineered worlds only 360-degree swing bridge, the longest suspension bridge (twice), longest cantilever bridge, longest "Rall"-type bascule bridge, and many early reinforced concrete bridges and long span simple trusses. He was the recipient of numerous awards and honorary degrees including a doctorate in engineering from Illinois State University (1911), the Franklin Medal (1923), a doctorate honoris causa from Lwów Polytechnic (1929), and the prestigious John Fritz Medal (1930). Mr. Modjeski’s unwavering integrity, expertise, and commitment to his craft continue to inspire the work of Modjeski and Masters to this day.
In honor of Modjeski’s extraordinary contributions, M&M is offering scholarships of up to $2,500 to five deserving students pursuing a degree in Engineering. This scholarship is for students who embody the values of integrity, personal growth, dedication, and academic achievement—qualities that Ralph Modjeski exemplified throughout his career.
