Every year, in the third week or so in January, golf professionals and industry insiders from all over the world convene in Orlando, Florida for the PGA Merchandise Show.

The show is far more than just the latest and greatest that the industry has to offer all on display in one place…It’s a huge opportunity for students to interact with industry leaders as well as potential employers for internships and full-time placement.

Students were all provided with the opportunity to have lunch with either the past presidents of the association or the current board of directors. This gives students the opportunity to solicit advice and connect with those at the very top of the industry and also to be heard.

The show kicks off with the annual “Demo Day” held at the Orange County National driving range where students can interact with professionals and equipment in an outdoor environment. It’s not just golf clubs at this demo day…If it can be used on a golf course it can be found there. Everything from the Golf Board (sort of a motorized scooter/skateboard designed for golf courses) to teaching/training aids can be found at demo day.

For the second time consecutively, Nebraska had the largest delegation of students from any of the PGA Golf Management University Programs with 32 students total attending. This is a testament to the value of attending the show as well as to the support provided by the university and faculty (who allow for the weeklong leave of absence to attend).

One can be sure that students are already marking their calendars for the 2019 Show scheduled for January 22-25, 2019. It’s sure to be a great opportunity!
