Horticulture Club poinsettia sale is Dec. 5-6
The annual poinsettia sale by the UNL Horticulture Club is 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 5 and 6 in the Nebraska and East unions. In the event of a weather-related cancellation, the sale will also be offered Dec. 7 at both locations.
The sale will feature a wide variety of poinsettia plants. A portion of profits from the sale of pink poinsettias will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. All plants sold were grown in East Campus greenhouses by members of the UNL Horticulture Club.
GREAT PLAINS ART MUSEUM, 7PM
Soldier-poet reading is today

A reading by soldier-poet Brian Turner is 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Great Plains Art Museum. The event is free and open to the public.
Turner is the author of two poetry collections, "Phantom Noise" (2010) and "Here, Bullet" (2005). The "Here, Bullet" collection won the 2005 Beatrice Hawley Award, the 2006 Pen Center USA "Best in the West" award, and the 2007 Poets Prize. The collection also was named a New York Times "Editor's Choice" selection. Read more about this reading in Today@UNL.

Haar selected a regional director for Jazz Education Network
Paul Haar, associate professor of saxophone and coordinator of jazz studies, has been named Midwest division director for the Jazz Education Network. He will serve as coordinator/liaison between the network and Midwest directors and educators in a seven state region.
States in the region include Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, North Dakota and South Dakota. The Jazz Education Network is an international organization based in the U.S. that seeks to advance jazz education, promote performance and develop new audiences. Founded in 2008, JEN has more than 1,500 members in 22 countries, including every U.S. state and seven Canadian provinces. Read more about this selection in Today@UNL.

Women's Center offers anthology reading

A reading from the anthology "Becoming: What Makes a Woman" will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Coffee House, 1324 P St. Organized by the UNL Women's Center, the event will feature readings by Marge Saiser, Adrian Koesters and Margie Lukas. Koesters is a lecturer in English.
Women's Center staff will also read some of their favorite portions of the anthology. "Becoming: What Makes a Woman" is an anthology of poems and essays that explore formative personal moments in women's lives. The anthology will be available to purchase for $15. Proceeds from "Becoming" support UNL Student Involvement Gender Programs.

Gary D. Willson has accepted an appointment as editor for Great Plains Research, a social and natural sciences journal published by the University of Nebraska's Center for Great Plains Studies. He replaces Robert F. Diffendal Jr., who led the journal for nine years.
Willson brings his background as an ecologist and former research coordinator with the National Park Service's Great Plains Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit to the journal, which he describes as an important interdisciplinary resource to scientists working in the Great Plains. Flu shot clinics to rotate through four campus locations

University Health Center is offering walk-in flu shot clinics at four UNL locations as part of National Influenza Vaccination Week (Dec. 2-8). The clinics, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., are: Dec. 5 at the East Union; and Dec. 6, Nebraska Union.
Flu shots are free for UNL students paying University Program and Facilities Fees. The shots are $30 for faculty and staff. Read more about flu shot sessions in Today@UNL.

The Internet and Interactive Media group of University Communications and Information Services has concluded the first phase in its effort to provide full support to all devices - desktops, laptops, smartphones and tablets - by implementing a suite of web technologies collectively known as 'responsive design.' This week, the internal and external homepages were re-launched as 'responsive' designs.
You can see the effects of responsive design in your desktop browser by simply re-sizing your browser window (the page will reformat as the window is narrowed), or by viewing on your tablet or smartphone.
