Special Garden and Agronomy Project Seeds First-Come, First-Served

2025 Special Agronomy and Garden Projects
2025 Special Agronomy and Garden Projects

4-H families have the opportunity to participate in the Special Garden and/or Special Agronomy Projects again this year.

The Special Garden Project is the Goldie Husk Cherry. This plant is in the tomato family and is also known as husk tomato, ground cherry or tomatillo. It has a sweet fruit inside the golden husks. The fruits have many uses and can be eaten raw, dried, frozen, canned or made into pies, desserts or preserves.

The Special Agronomy Project is sunflowers. The variety 4-H’ers will be growing is a high oleic hybrid. High oleic sunflower hybrids produce oil with high levels of oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat. The oil from these hybrids is often used in specialty markets.

Seed packets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call the Extension office at 402‑441‑7180 to sign up for these special projects. The seed packages are sponsored by Nebraska Extension in Lancaster County and one seed packet per project, per family. Seeds will be mailed after April 30.
