For the past 23 years, the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has celebrated the talent and creative potential of high school juniors across the state in the categories of visual art, dance, music, theatre, and film and emerging media arts via the annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.
As part of that competition, the School of Art, Art History & Design has showcased the visual arts component in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall through the Statewide High School Invitational Exhibition (SHSIE). This year, due to the concerns of the Covid pandemic, the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery is featuring the SHSIE as a virtual experience on its website at art.unl.edu.
To participate in the process, schools were invited to nominate students to participate. Each student was asked to submit images via Slideroom of one work of art. All forms of visual art were accepted.
Our jurors, Professor of Art Eddie Dominguez and Professor of Art Santiago Cal, selected 47 students to showcase in SHSIE and gave the Nebraska Young Artist Award to 20 of them.
