Crisis leave

This summer our state experienced devastating flooding that impacted thousands of Nebraskans, including many members of our University community. Many have already participated in flood relief and assistance programs. If you are still interested in participating or need assistance the programs offered by UNL are outlined here:

Special Civil Leave for Voluntary Flood Recovery Efforts

- The University of Nebraska will approve up to 40 hours of Civil Leave to employees who volunteer to assist in the 2019 flood recovery efforts or who have been directly affected. This special Civil Leave is available to all leave-eligible employees. Employees will submit requests through ESS Leave via Firefly by selecting the newly added “Civil Leave” on the drop down menu or fill out the Civil Leave Request Form. Civil Leave will need to be approved by the employee’s immediate supervisor and documentation should be provided to the employee’s department. See attached “Special Civil Leave” for full policy.

The Major Disaster Leave-Sharing Plan

- The University of Nebraska has created a plan to allow leave-eligible employees to donate vacation leave to the Major Disaster Leave Bank. Employees wishing to do so should complete the Major Disaster Leave Donation Form and return the form to Sarah Goodrich (sgoodrich3@unl.edu) or Tammie Herrington (tammie@unl.edu) with the CEHS Business Office. Leave-eligible employees may donate up to the amount of vacation that they would accrue in one calendar year. Approved donation amounts will be deducted from the employee’s current vacation leave balance. See attached “Major Disaster Leave Sharing” for full policy.

- Vacation leave-eligible employees of the University of Nebraska who have been impacted by the 2019 Storm and Flooding may request Major Disaster Leave under this plan once they have exhausted their accrued vacation leave balance. Eligible employees requesting this leave should complete the Major Disaster Leave Request Form and, once approved by their department, return the form along with necessary documentation to Sarah Goodrich (sgoodrich3@unl.edu) or Tammie Herrington (tammie@unl.edu) with the CEHS Business Office. See attached “Major Disaster Leave Sharing” for full policy.
