A startup company based in Lincoln that specializes in renewable/alternative energy generation and optimization is seeking assistance with the formulation of an algorithm to form the basis of a commercial software product.
Specifically, the algorithm seeks to match the energy demanded to energy supplied, subject to power availability and limited by the demander(s)’ maximum power consumption, with respect to a given time period and weighted by preference for a specific load shape (energy = power * time).
This is a discrete optimization algorithm, and more descriptively a "Knapsack problem." A solid background in optimization algorithms utilizing basic calculus and differential equations should be sufficient.
We are seeking either graduate students or faculty who are available for a short-term basis; compensation is competitive and can be either project or hourly-based.
