The IEEE-USA is accepting video submissions on "How Engineers Make a World of Difference", which should be formatted as a two-minute personal profile aimed at the eleven to thirteen age demographic. The video should include an introduction, the submitter's academic background, and an opinion on how engineers improve the world. This may include an example of the submitter's research, why engineering is a great career choice, what makes one passionate about engineering, or simply discussing the contributions of a highly regarded engineer.
Three scholarships will be awarded based on achievement in content, production value, and for YouTube views. Each category offers a scholarship of $1,500 with every submission qualifying for all three. The first ten students to submit their projects will receive a $50 gift card from Amazon. Winning submissions will be shown during Engineers Week and will also be featured on PBS' Design Squad website.
To qualify, applicants must hold US Citizenship and be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student, all disciplines qualify. At least one member per submission team must be a student member of IEEE-USA. Videos should be uploaded to YouTube, as well as submitted via email to video@ieeeusa.org. The deadline for submission is January 27, 2012.
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers is an organization committed to the support of career and public policy interests of its members. The scholarship competition is currently in its fifth year and is being held in conjunction with IEEE's National Engineers Week activities, which will run from February 19-25, 2012.
