Primarily Math alumni Amy Barton of Lincoln Public Schools and Andrew Boone of Gretna Public Schools have each been named state finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) and were presented with the awards at the recent Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics (NATM) Conference.

The PAEMST is the highest recognition that a K-12 mathematics or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States. The National Science Foundation administers PAEMST on behalf of The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
