Hello Geology Majors,
I hope you are doing well. I know that you are all very busy at this time of the year, so I will try to make this message a bit shorter.
As you prepare for your final exams next week, I would like to present you with some tips from my personal experience with final exams. First, it is much better to spend an hour or two every day prior to the exam studying rather than cramming for 8 hours right before the exam starts. Second, always leave yourself plenty of time to travel to your exam if it will be in-person. As a side note, always double (and sometimes triple) check the date, time, and location of your final exam, and remember that it could be different from the normal course schedule. Third, always bring or have extra pens, pencils, paper, calculators, etc. for your final exam as you never know what might happen. Fourth, a restroom break prior to the exam is always a good idea. Finally, always thoroughly read and follow the exam instructions.
The end of the semester is a good time for reflection. As you reread your course syllabi to prepare for final exams, review the objectives for the course. It will help you focus on what is important to the professor. Think also, about what is important for you. Consider educational and career goals. Are you developing the skills and knowledge you will need for your future? What experiences would help you distinguish yourself from other students when you graduate? Spring 2021 Geology Advising
All academic advising for the Spring 2021 season will be completed virtually. This means that all advising meetings and interactions will be conducted on Zoom, over the phone, or via email. Doug and Professor Kettler are available to meet your academic advising needs, and we look forward to meeting with you and working with you throughout the spring semester. Even though advising will continue to be virtual, we will do everything we can to support you for the spring semester.
Due to social distancing even if Doug and Professor Kettler are in their offices, you will need schedule an advising appointment that will be conducted via Zoom, phone, or email or join drop-in advising on Zoom. If an in-person meeting is absolutely required, arrangements will need to be made well in advance so we can accommodate social distancing in the meeting.
Doug’s advising hours will be:
Appointments – 8:30 am to 4:30 pm every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
Appointments – 8:30 am to 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm every Wednesday and Friday
Drop-In Advising - 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm every Wednesday and Friday
