Our students and alumni at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln have incredible and impactful global experiences during their time on campus. This section features those who have been highlighted across campus in the last month for their accomplishments, experiences, and Nebraska career.

9 Huskers earn Fulbright awards; 2 named alternates
Nine University of Nebraska–Lincoln students have been chosen as Fulbright recipients for the 2020-21 academic year, while two other students have been named alternates. This year, because of the coronavirus pandemic, all Fulbright experiences will begin after Jan. 1, 2021.

3 Husker undergraduates earn Boren Awards
Nebraska undergraduates Cameron Azimi, Skylar Lowe and Andrew Neill have earned Boren scholarships to study critical languages. The National Security Education Program’s Boren Awards provide U.S. college students with significant funding to acquire language skills and experience in countries critical to the future security and stability of the nation.

Nebraska Nice’ culture provides welcoming transition for international track athletes
Nebraska’s tradition of academic and athletic success attracts student athletes from around the world. On the track and field team alone, there are 21 international athletes from 14 different countries. For freshman sprinter sprinter/hurdler Winsome Harris and sophomore sprinter Jordane Jackson—both from Jamaica—Nebraska’s friendly people are one reason why they’re proud to be Huskers.

Martinez discovers Nebraska through online education
Carlos Martinez has spent most of his life involved with agriculture, ever since growing up on his family’s sugarcane farm in El Salvador. After becoming manager of the family farm, Martinez wanted to learn more about agronomy and signed up for a noncredit course in plant science. A few years later, he was inspired to earn his master’s degree in agronomy through Nebraska’s online program.

10 Huskers honored with Student Luminary Awards
Ten University of Nebraska–Lincoln students, including one international student, were honored in March with Student Luminary Awards for their exceptional leadership and commitment to improving campus life. Awardees demonstrate a significant and active commitment to inclusion, are advocates for positive change, initiate activities that help every Husker feel valued, and model academic excellence.

Grad student wins two international online music competitions
Glenn Korff School of Music graduate student Kiya Fife was recently announced as the winner of two international online competitions. Fife, pursuing her doctor of musical arts in vocal performance, won The Music of Mediterranean Europe and The Music of Germany and Austria categories for the Great Composers Competition.
