Director of Global Safety & Security provides risk management support

In late 2017, Dave Long was hired as the new Director of Global Safety & Security in the Office of Global Strategies. Since then, he has worked with faculty, staff, and students across the university to ensure their safety and security while abroad.

Dave is responsible for the development and implementation of university-wide policies and procedures related to international risk management and mitigation. Some examples of Dave’s work include his support and facilitation of: Executive Memorandum No.25 waiver requests, an international architectural dig in Turkey, the 2018 Mandela Washington Fellowship Civic Leadership Institute, and the Fulbright English Graduate Studies Pre-Academic Program.

In his capacity, Dave supports educational programs that include outbound mobility by assessing risks and ensuring that crisis response plans are put in place. He monitors world events based on institutional exposure and works with travelers to mitigate risk. Dave also supports international students and scholars on campus, working in concert with multiple offices across Nebraska to respond to crises or advise on protocols.
