Communications Intern - Lincoln Literacy (Lincoln, NE)

Lincoln Literacy (LL), an award-winning, community-based nonprofit, seeks a communications intern for this fall. It is a paid, rich experiential opportunity which can enhance the resume and portfolio of a successful applicant.

The intern will work with staff to:
> Become familiar with the organizational mission, ethics, and structure, as well as the responsibilities of the staff and volunteers.
> Undergo training on Lincoln Literacy communications policies and tools.
> Produce graphics, flyers, web content, social media content, and other tools to market our fundraising events.
> Visit our classes to seek out stories to be conveyed in images, video, and print.
> Work with executive director on mass email messaging.
> Work on design elements and content for late November print newsletter, then helping with printing and mailing, and annual report in the spring.

Excellent graphics abilities, creativity, and a willingness to learn about a nonprofit agency and find ways to convey its story and messages are essential. The internship will average 6 – 8 hours per week, but double in certain critical weeks. (Note: During the Covid Pandemic, this will mostly be a remote position.)

Learning Expectations:
> Learn about operations, needs, ethics, and services of a nonprofit agency.
> Learn about refugees and immigrants and the challenges of Lincoln to serve and integrate them into the community.
> Gain experience as communications intern on various projects.
> Gain nonprofit administrative experience under supervision.

Conduct Expectations:
> Perform with excellence, diligence, and integrity.
> Respect the personnel and clients of LL and the confidentiality of LL data.
> Be prompt and reliable.
> Keep daily records of work performed and write a brief monthly reflection.
> Provide at least a week’s notice of scheduled absences, and make every effort to give advance notice of emergency absences.
