Public Information Officer II - Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles (Lincoln, NE)

The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) aims to deliver quality, accessible, and secure services to all Nebraskans. We are seeking a Public Information Officer II to join our team to ensure the information we share is accurate and understandable to the people we serve. Under limited supervision, you will be responsible for developing and implementing public information activities for a multi-program agency. Additionally, this position will assist in supporting special projects as needed.

The Public Information Officer II will be an excellent communicator and will be responsible for:
> Planning and coordinating the internal and external communications of the Department, working with the leadership team to promote agency services, and ensuring teammates are kept informed of developments
> Serving as a primary media point of contact, preparing and delivering strategic written and verbal responses to media requests and identifying proactive strategies to inform media, stakeholders and the public on the mission, operations and issues of the DMV
> Advising the leadership team on public relations, and providing recommendations and strategies on developing information releases to inform the media, public, and other stakeholders on emerging issues
> Composing news releases, speeches, presentations, web content, social media and written correspondence
> Coordinating and overseeing release of information such as Department reports and newsletters

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, advertising, creative writing or related field. Experience in developing, planning and managing public relations/publicity campaigns, mass media communication activities or public information programs may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.

Knowledge of: the development, planning, implementation and management of public relation/publicity campaigns, informational material preparation, mass media communication activities, public information programs; statewide and local media sources and operations; reference sources; inter-relationships between public information and administrative/program activities.

Ability to: communicate effectively with various individuals and groups; apply principles and practices of public relations to operation of a public information function; apply crisis and risk communication strategies; work cooperatively with a team of professionals.
