A journalism professor from the College of Journalism and Mass Communications is looking for an enthusiastic graduate student for an internship for the upcoming academic year 2021/2022. The successful candidate will work with the professor on journalism research related to media and news coverage of the environment and natural resources. Overview of duties includes researching topics utilizing UNL libraries' online research tools and Google Scholar, performing content analysis coding and interviewing research participants.
The successful candidate will possess an eagerness to learn, be detail-oriented, self-sufficient, knowledgeable about journalism and have some research experience or a willingness to learn more about academic research. Additionally, experience with content analysis coding and research is ideal, but not required.
Required qualifications:
> Current, enrolled graduate student
> Proficient with Excel
> Detail-oriented
> Strong editing and writing skills
> Familiarity with academic research tools, including Google Scholar
Preferred qualifications:
> Academic research experience including content analysis coding and interviewing
> Journalism experience including editing or reporting
> CITI training certification
Students with availability for only the Fall 2021 semester will be considered, however, a full-year commitment would be preferred. The student must be enrolled and taking at least one class at UNL as a graduate student. The student does not need to live in Lincoln, NE, but must live in the United States.
The pay will be up to $20 an hour based on previous experience and qualifications, and the intern will work anywhere from 10 to 20 hours a week. The hours and schedule are flexible, but a minimum of 10 hours a week is required. The university’s academic calendar will be observed.
