Public Relations and Communications Intern - UNL - First Generation Nebraska (Lincoln, NE)

The First Generation Nebraska Public Relations and Communications Intern will coordinate campus outreach and communication initiatives for First Generation Nebraska (FGN). In addition to gaining experience in programming and public relations, the FGN Public Relations and Communications Intern will assist with the staffing of in-person first generation events. The First Generation Nebraska Public Relations and Communications Intern will need to commit approximately 3-7 hours per week (approximately 20-30 hours per month).

About First Generation Nebraska (FGN):
In fall of 2017, Nebraska's Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor launched First Generation Nebraska, an initiative designed to link first generation college students and faculty and staff who share a similar academic experience with the goal of making our campus more "first generation friendly."

Acknowledging first generation status as part of one's identity might seem a small thing, but it can be critical to students' success, helping them easily identify faculty and staff who can relate to challenges they might be facing. FGN invites faculty and staff who were first generation college students themselves to participate.

In 2019, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln was recognized as a NASPA First Gen Forward Institution for its commitment to improving experiences and outcomes of first generation college students. In 2020, the First Generation Nebraska initiative was named a recipient of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine’s 2020 Inspiring Affinity Group Award. In 2021, The University of Nebraska-Lincoln was named an Advisory Board Institution for NASPA First Gen Forward.
