Communications and Public Relations Intern, Water for Food Institute

About the Position:
The institute is seeking a communications and public relations intern to help produce our bi-monthly newsletter, the Water for Food Digest, which involves researching, selecting and writing news articles, interviewing faculty and or staff, requesting information from staff, formatting the newsletter in Constant Contact and emailing it to the newsletter list. Responsibilities also include social media communications: gathering content and photos for Facebook and Twitter posts and monitoring social media sites for comments. Writing press releases and other writing assignments will also be required, as needed.

Pay for the position will be $10/hour, with approximately 60 to 70 hours of time estimated for completion of tasks. The weekly schedule of 4-6 hours, between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., can be arranged around the intern’s needs. Internship expected to begin in early September and finish in early December. The communications and public relations intern will work closely with Molly Nance, director of communications and public relations, Craig Eiting, web developer and graphic design specialist and others, as needed.

Required Knowledge, Ability and Skills:
• Understanding and application of Associated Press writing style
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Excellent writing skills for appropriate medium: newsletters, social media, press releases, brochures, blogs, websites
• Strong social media experience, primarily with Facebook and Twitter
