KOLN-TV is accepting applications for a full-time Video Journalist for our newsroom in Lincoln with the main focus on live reports and with a passion for breaking news.
The VJ has the unique opportunity to report for as many as six stations in Nebraska as part of the new Nebraska News Network. He or She has general responsibility for accurate, relevant and timely news coverage and coordinating creative live shots that move whether it be working with another reporting or doing their own live shot. He/she will be serving people with news that leads the market as first, as most relevant, most compelling, and most useful with an emphasis on visual presentation and performance. This position involves strong news judgment along with high levels of creativity, communication, language skills and professionalism.
Duties include, but are not limited to: assisting with other live shots when needed, flexibility to shoot and report live under tight deadlines on-air and on the web involving breaking news situations. The VJ coordinates with other news staff to process information for fast, accurate dissemination, making news judgments about content importance, content presentation and content distribution. The position is also responsible for knowledge of the community and story idea generation while waiting for the next alarm to sound in Lincoln.
Qualifications include: media-related bachelor’s degree or equivalent job experience in journalism, experience in a newsroom turning stories on a daily deadline, experience with a video camera in shooting and editing. High flexibility is required as this position has odd hours. News judgment, decisiveness, strong ability to handle/meet deadlines, exceptional writing/grammar skills, positive ability to work well with other staff, strong on-air presence need to be first and accurate with news coverage, working knowledge of new media, and willingness to take direction as a team player are essential. Must maintain a permanent residence within 30 minutes of station and meet physical requirements of the position. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. A valid driver's license is required.
