Editorial/Public Programs Summer Intern, The Aspen Institute (Aspen, CO)

The Aspen Institute is an educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, DC. Its mission is to foster leadership based on enduring values and to provide a nonpartisan venue for dealing with critical issues. The Institute has campuses in Aspen, Colorado, and on the Wye River on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. It also maintains offices in New York City and has an international network of partners.

The Aspen Institute Summer Internship Program employs rising college seniors or recent college graduates during the summer months in Aspen, Colorado. Internship opportunities are available in the following departments: Development, Seminars, Administration, ITS, Conference Services, and Public Programs. All internships are paid positions.

Timeline for internship program:

Basic Function:

The Editorial intern will assist in tasks related to all print and digital materials tor the Aspen Ideas Festival, the AIF blog, other content for http://www.aspenideas.org, and more. The Editorial intern will also support the Public Programs Department with event-related tasks during the Aspen Ideas Festival and other events throughout the summer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Support the editorial team of Aspen Ideas Festival printed and digital materials with tasks such as tracking production deadlines, assembling photos for selection, tracking photo credits, and fact-checking text.
Prepare blog posts contributed by Institute staff and partners in a Drupal CMS, adding hyperlinks and editing in a limited capacity for Institute style.
Assist in generating new story ideas and finding dynamic storytelling formats to feature on the Aspen Ideas Festival website.
Write original blog posts to promote the Aspen Ideas Festival programming.
Support the editorial team with updates to the mobile app.
Support the editorial team by regularly finding and storing stock and editorial images for later use on our digital channels.
Participate in regular content meetings.
Event support during the Aspen Ideas Festival and other summer programming at the Institute.
Digital archiving of Aspen Ideas content for use on website and Institute’s podcast.
Other duties as needed.

Valid driver's license
Interns are responsible for their local housing, though the Institute will assist in locating opportunities when possible.
Authorized to work in the US
Knowledge, Education and Experience:


Must be enrolled in or recent graduate of an accredited college.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
