Media Studies Video Instructor, Iowa Western Community College

Minimum Qualifications: 

1. Masters Degree in Communications or related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Communications
or
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or related field and three years recent relevant professional experience in the field.

2. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.

3. Effective organizational skills, particularly as they relate to the teacher-learning process and new media production.

4. Capable of creating a classroom environment which is conducive to student learning.


Desirable Qualifications: 

1. Previous teaching experience at the high school or community college level.

2. Working knowledge of cameras, lighting and editing equipment used in new media.

3. Ability and experience in troubleshooting and repairing equipment.

4. Committed to recruiting students and retaining them in the program.

5. Comfortable working in a team environment, under pressure with deadlines.

6. An understanding of the community college philosophy and the community college student.

7. Experience with alternative learning delivery methods and systems.

8. Commitment to cultural diversity among students, faculty and in the curriculum.

9. Computer experience in common software and Internet.
About the Position: The faculty member will be responsible for course instruction, classroom management, and communicating expectations to students. Other duties include, but are not limited to, producing, directing, technical assistance with media productions, teaching classroom sessions, assisting in curriculum development/restructuring, committee assignments, student academic advising and responsibilities for materials and supplies. The faculty member will also act as the primary recruiter for the Media Studies: Media Production (video) program. All candidates interviewed will be required to provide a teaching demonstration.


Job Responsibilities: 

1. Develop and implement a recruiting plan to increase students in the program.
2. Organize and teach classes as assigned by the academic dean, meeting the contract minimum of on-campus hours per week.
3. Conduct class meetings for the entire period scheduled and in a punctual manner.
4. Contribute to the development of course competencies for the program.
5. Assist with the development and revision of program curricula.
6. Assist with the recruitment and retention of students to the program.
7. Assist with the program day, tours and program open houses.
8. Initiate and pursue a professional growth plan; at a minimum, this plan must meet the guidelines for yearly in-service training.
9. Maintain competency and knowledge of current research, practice, and trends in college education.
10. Advise students as assigned; refer students to other college resources as needed.
11. Actively participate in college life and activities, including participation in campus committees.
12. Maintain program equipment, making reports of repairs as needed to the department program chair and appropriate college departments.
13. Maintain student enrollment, attendance, competency records, grades and other pertinent class and student records using the college course management system.
14. Complete course assessment report forms for every course each semester in a timely fashion.
15. Participate in departmental, school and college meetings as scheduled.
16. Maintain up-to-date syllabi, using criteria established by the department, in all courses assigned.
17. Exhibit a positive and professional demeanor and attitude, contributing to a productive and growth oriented work environment.
18. Schedule and conduct a minimum of 8 hours of office hours weekly.
19. Serve as an advisor to student activity organizations as assigned.
20. Understand and adhere to the organizational structure of the College and the academic division.
21. Maintain confidentiality regarding students and colleagues.
22. Demonstrate punctuality on all requests from the Dean and Program Chair. This may include, but is not limited to:

• Development of class schedules

• Budget development

• Evaluation of courses and programs

• Reports

• Committee assignments

• Equipment needs and evaluations
23. Undertake and proficiently complete additional duties as assigned.
