Communications Student Intern I, AARP (Lincoln)

An exciting opportunity to work on issue and programs of concern to people 50+. Work closely with AARP Nebraska Associate Director for Communications in supporting state and federal legislative priorities, community programs and events and the AARP Fraud Watch Network.

-Arrange and coordinate speaking engagements for AARP Fraud Watch network volunteers; assist with logistics and planning as needed; track results of volunteer speaking engagements; compile and send regular AARP Fraud Watch Network updates to volunteers; provide resources and publications for volunteer activities and assist the ASD for Communications with outreach to community partners in planning joint fraud events.
-Prepare biweekly newsletter for AARP volunteers.
-Assist with state office communications via social media and the web. Draft blogs for the web pages and posts for Facebook and Twitter.
-Assist with event planning and management.
-Assist with volunteer communication and work closely with AARP staff and volunteers and providing support for State Plan events.
-Work on assorted projects that are scheduled throughout the year with an opportunity for the intern to experience many different aspects of work ranging from meetings, listening sessions, public events, varied communication with volunteers/members and event preparation.

**This is a PAID internship.**

Qualifications required:

-Currently enrolled as undergraduate degree student in journalism, communications, gerontology, political science, social work or liberal arts. Will consider all degrees and work related experience.
-Intern I position requires undergraduate studies, junior or senior year.
-Minimum GPA is 3.0
-Able to work business hours, part-time 15 or more hours weekly.
-Experience using social media channels like Facebook, Twitter & YouTube.
-Computer skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and online search tools.
-Able to commit to AARP Nebraska thru internship term beginning June 5, 2017 and ending August 18, 2017. There will be the possibility of extending the internship up to one year.
